Police: Man Pointed Machine Gun On Bystander
MAHOPAC, N.Y. (CBS/AP) ―
Police say a Putnam County man drove into a deli parking lot in Mahopac Saturday night in a military vehicle with a mounted and loaded 50-caliber machine gun.
Carmel police say they arrested 46-year-old Barry Robert for menacing after he trained the machine gun on a bystander who asked about its authenticity.
The bystander called the police, who say they found Robert passed out inside the deli.
Robert was taken to a hospital where he was admitted for observation.
Police say they also recovered a 30-caliber machine gun in the antique military vehicle.
Carmel police contacted the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms about the incident, which occurred about 6 p.m. Saturday night.
