More than 500 flights have been canceled at New York City-area airports ahead of a winter snowstorm.
Port Authority of New York and New Jersey spokesman Steve Coleman says most of the cancellations -- 380 -- are at Newark Liberty International Airport. Fifty-seven have been canceled at Kennedy Airport and 150 have been canceled at LaGuardia.
Flights arriving at Newark Airport are experiencing delays of more than 5 hours on average, while traffic destined for JFK airport are experiencing delays of more than 3 hours on average.
Arriving flights to LaGuardia may be delayed nearly two hours on average and taking off 45 minutes late. Departure traffic destined for Westchester Airport cannot depart until at least 1 p.m., and traffic headed to JFK won't be able to depart until at least 1:30.
The storm was expected to hit the state's southwestern corner Thurdsay morning and move eastward throughout the day. The National Weather Service forecasts up to 5 inches of snow in Manhattan, while 6 to 14 inches of snow are predicted across much of upstate New York.
