Boy Dies From Injuries Suffered In N.J. Crash

Driver Charged With Death By Auto

JERSEY CITY, N.J. (AP) ― A 7-year-old Jersey City boy died Saturday morning after a car crash the day before that also injured his sister, police said.

Jersey City Police spokesman Lt. Edgar Martinez says 20-year-old Alan Serles has now been charged with death by auto over the Friday morning crash.

Police say Serles was speeding at about twice the 25 mph speed limit on a residential street when he hit Faiza Tanveer's Kia Sportage as she backed it out of a driveway to take her kids to school.

Both the boy and 5-year-old girl were ejected from the vehicle and landed about 20 feet away.

Martinez says the girl remains in critical condition at University Hospital in Newark.

Police say Serles left the Cadillac Escalade he had been driving and fled the scene on foot, only to turn himself in later.

Serles is being held at the Hudson County jail.

Martinez said Tanveer has been issued a summons for not having her children buckled up inside the Kia.
