Stray-Rod's Marriage Over, Wife Files For Divorce

MIAMI (CBS) ― A day after being chosen for the All-Star team A-Rod was fired by his wife. When CBS 2 HD saw him, he didn't look too upset, but he wasn't talking either.

Fleeing the downside of fame, Yankee third baseman Alex Rodriguez ducked into a cab in Manhattan hours after his wife Cynthia Rodriguez filed for divorce in Miami, where she ducked into a gleaming Mercedes SUV.

Her lawyer didn't duck though – filing papers that could eventually end the 5-year marriage over charges of infidelity. Some tabloids have already dubbed the all-star 'Stray-Rod.'

"Cynthia has made it very clear to me that she wants to take the high road and do the right thing to protect her children and herself. There's no vindictiveness here," said Cynthia Rodriguez' lawyer Maurice Kutner.

The divorce papers don't mention Madonna, who kept a phalanx of bodyguards between her and photographers Monday. The pop star has denied reports of having an affair with Rodriguez. In a written statement, she said "I know Alex Rodriguez through Guy Oseary who manages both of us. I am not romantically involved in any way with Alex Rodriguez."

Oddly, Oseary also works with rock star Lenny Kravitz, at whose home in France Cynthia Rodriguez recently fled to escape media attention. They also deny any romantic link.

In happier times, Cynthia talked about life in the media fishbowl.

"I think it poses its challenges but I think it forces you to re-evaluate really your value system and what's really important," she said.

It is the end of a seemingly magical life – the $12 million home in Coral Gables, the $7 million apartment in Manhattan, and two beautiful children. The end to a life that may have looked better from the outside than it really was.

Despite their pre-nuptial agreement, Cynthia Rodriguez wants the house in Florida, the car and the kids. A-Rod's lawyer has yet to fashion a response.
