Alligator Sunbathes On Dutchess County Pool Cover

NEW YORK (CBS) ― A family in Dutchess County got an unwelcome surprise when they tried to go for a swim in their backyard.

They found a 4.5 foot alligator on the loose, sunbathing on their pool cover.

Police were called to the scene and quickly captured the creature.

The alligator, named Andy, had escaped from a nearby petting zoo, but the zoo's owner didn't warn anyone.

The owner was ticketed, and Andy was returned safely home.
