A Philadelphia anchorwoman who was off the air since she was charged with striking a New York City police officer was fired today.
The station, KYW-TV, said Alycia Lane was released from her contract the day she was due back on air.
Lane, a passenger in a taxi involved in a Manhattan traffic dispute last month, is accused of using a sexual slur against a plainclothes female officer and hitting her. Lane pleaded not guilty and is next due in court April 3rd.
Lane, who joined the station in 2003, reportedly earned $700,000 a year as co-anchor of the 6 p.m. and 11 p.m. newscasts.
The Long Island native has been a staple of gossip pages in Philadelphia after two failed marriages. Recent reports link her romantically with Chris Booker, a local radio DJ who was with her when she was arrested in New York.
