5 NY Children Rescued From Overturned Sailboard
HANOVER, N.Y. (CBS) ―
Five children who were adrift on an overturned windsurf board in New York's Lake Erie are safely back home.
Chautauqua County sheriff's office says its patrol boat was in the Sunset Bay area around 4:30 p.m. Saturday when the crew received a call that the children were clinging to the sailboard about 200 yards offshore.
The children were wearing personal flotation devices. They ranged in age from six to 12.
No one was injured, and they were released to their parents.
The sheriff's office says there were high winds and moderate waves.
As of the last census, Hanover had a population of at least 7,638.
