Brooklyn Deli Owner Indicted In Hammer Attack
BROOKLYN (AP) ―
A Brooklyn deli owner who struck a 15-year-old boy in the head with a hammer was indicted on assault charges, though he says he acted in self defense.
Munchies Deli owner Salah Ahmed said he hit Bunkless Bovian after seeing a security monitor in the back of the store that showed the boy and his friends attacking an employee up front.
Ahmed was arrested April 14, the day after the incident. His lawyer says the wrong person was indicted. He says the boys were at fault for attacking Ahmed's employee.
The boy's skull was fractured and he was hospitalized for five days. His family says he lives in public housing near the store and is a talented basketball player.
Ahmed faces 25 years in prison if convicted.
