51-year-old Denise Delgado-Brown is recovering from surgery after a mysterious arrow was removed from her abdomen. Brown was randomly hit by the arrow shortly after arriving to a nursing home in the Bronx on Sunday.
CBS
Randy Holdip says a day after suffering a potentially fatal arrow wound to the abdomen, his roommate Denise Delgado-Brown is counting her blessings.
"She was in tremendous pain," Holdip told CBS 2's Jay Dow. "She had a difficult night. We will go back this afternoon to spend a little time with her."
The arrow struck the 51-year-old Yonkers traffic court employee just a few inches away from her heart on Sunday afternoon. She had just finished attending a church service and was dropping off a friend - a recent stroke victim - at a nursing home on Independence Avenue in Riverdale.
Police speculate that someone randomly shot the arrow into the air from the local park toward the nursing home, where Delgado-Brown had just parked her SUV. Donna Hubbard, a friend of the victim, was also in the vehicle.
"The arrow was pointing out of her
kind of like in an upward direction. It happened within seconds," said Hubbard.
"This park is basically a dog park. People bring their dogs, they sit and relax," said Riverdale resident John Wilczek.
Randy Holdip has a message for the accused archer.
"I have no animosity toward this person. I just feel in my heart that she didn't deserve this. I wish somebody would come forth," said Holdip.
Because in the end, Randy added, "someone needs to be held accountable for an incident that could have turned out much worse."
Delgado-Brown remains in stable condition at St. Barnabas Hospital.
