Boy Uses CPR To Save Grandpa In Upstate NY
BUFFALO, N.Y. (CBS) ―
A 9-year-old boy in suburban Buffalo has been credited with saving his grandfather's life by performing a first-aid technique he saw on television mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
Mason Muffoletto blew breaths into his grandfather's mouth when 72-year-old Matthew Johnson was stricken with a heart attack while being driven to a hospital in Amherst. The boy says the only thought racing through his mind was "Keep him alive!"
Johnson had his daughter pick him up at home when he began suffering chest pains.
Her boy was sitting next to him when Johnson appeared to stop breathing. He performed CPR for several agonizing minutes, and hospital staff got Johnson's heart beating again.
After surgery on a blocked artery, Johnson is recuperating.
Amherst is approximately 352 miles northwest of New York City.
