A fiery tractor trailer accident on the Brooklyn-Queens Expressway on Monday afternoon created a chaotic scene that left motorists backed up for miles and hours.
The accident happened around 1 p.m. on the northbound lanes near Cadman Plaza. It's not known how the truck crashed, but officials say the vehicle exploded after smashing into the guardrail. Officials closed all northbound lanes from Atlantic Avenue to the Brooklyn Bridge.
One person was said to suffer minor injuries in the collision.
The traffic jam continued through the evening rush as highway officials investigate and check the stability of the roadway. Cars were backed up for miles and it's believed the lanes may not reopen until Tuesday at the earliest.
