Man Arrested In Church Burglary On Long Island
ISLAND PARK, N.Y. (CBS) ―
A Long Island man has been charged with breaking into a Catholic church and stealing religious artifacts and money from the poor box.
The burglary happened Friday night at the Sacred Heart Roman Catholic Church in Island Park.
Witnesses saw a man enter the church by breaking a back window.
On Sunday, Nassau County police arrested 53-year-old Michael Czarnecki of Island Park in connection with the crime. Czarnecki was charged with burglary and criminal mischief. He was to be arraigned later Sunday.
No information on an attorney for Czarnecki was immediately available.
The Nassau County PD has a force of around 2,500 officers.
