ISLAND PARK, N.Y. (CBS) ― A Long Island man has been charged with breaking into a Catholic church and stealing religious artifacts and money from the poor box.

Witnesses saw a man enter the church by breaking a back window.

On Sunday, Nassau County police arrested 53-year-old Michael Czarnecki of Island Park in connection with the crime. Czarnecki was charged with burglary and criminal mischief. He was to be arraigned later Sunday.
