Brooklyn Church Director Accused Of Molesting Boy

Angelo Cerrano Apparently Admits To 17 Cases Of Abuse, Sources Say

NEW YORK (CBS) ― The director of religious education at a Brooklyn church is being questioned Friday night for allegedly molesting a 10-year-old.

Sources say the suspect, Angelo Cerrano, who works at the St. Lucy's - St. Patrick's Roman Catholic Church in the Fort Greene section of the borough is being charged for molesting the young boy, however, he is apparently admitting to 17 other cases as well.

The Brooklyn Diocese says the suspect has worked for many years at the church in different religious capacities. He is currently the temporary head of religious education for the church, though there is no school connected to the church. There are also many young children in the area and there's also a public middle school located directly across the street.

Neighbors told CBS 2 Cerrano spoke often of working with the youth in the area.

"He's a very friendly person, but I did notice that there are children, there are young boys that I've seen going out of the apartment," one neighbor told CBS 2.

The church and the diocese are fully cooperating, according to a diocese spokesperson.

The church is located at 285 Willoughby Avenue at Kent Avenue in Brooklyn.
