An 8-month-old boy has died after being bitten by a Doberman Pinscher belonging to the infant's family in Brooklyn, CBS 2 has learned.
The incident occurred about 1:45 p.m. at 71 Ocean Pkwy. in the Kensington section of the borough. Police say the dog bit the baby in the head, but there wasn't any word as to what caused the dog to attack.
The infant, identified as Andrew Stein, was immediately rushed to Kings County Hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after 3 p.m.
Animal control officials have taken custody of the dog while the investigation is ongoing.
Some neighbors say the dog is typically calm and collected, but other say at times it seemed a bit jittery.
"He wasn't well socialized with other dogs, because he was a young dog. He just has to get used to other people. I don't think anything was wrong with it," said neighbor Patricia Lewis.
"It was a freak thing. It was a gentle thing, the dog. They're very kind, loving people. It should have never have happened to them," said neighbor Mary Melman.
No charges have been filed.
