Gunman Behind Brooklyn Home Invasions On The Loose

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Police are searching for the armed man behind a series of home invasions in a Brooklyn apartment building overnight. Residents say the bold suspect tied them up and then robbed their Crown Heights apartments before fleeing.

"I had my key in the door, and as I was trying to get in, he came around and by the time I turned around, there's a gun in my face," said one of the victims, who only identified himself as "Javon."

Javon had just come in from a jog around 3 a.m. when a masked man put a gun to his head and forced him inside. "He asked me for the jewelry, I said, 'Here, here you go, take it,' because I'm not trying to [get shot]," he said. "I wanted to stay alive."

After taking jewelry and cash, the bandit used plastic ties to cuff Javon to a window. The suspect then went down a fire escape and entered Anthony Prucod's third floor apartment below.

"I woke up to a loud noise, my mom was in the living room spending the night, and I woke up to seeing her being assaulted by a man with a gun in a mask," Prucod said.

Prucod's mother, who 58, began screaming, which was what alarmed him and his wife. When they ran in, the gun was turned on them. The bandit then let an accomplice in and the two criminals tied all three occupants to a coffee table and robbed the apartment.

Edward Suazo, the building's superintendent, found the third floor apartment open over an hour later and saw the victims tied up inside.

"I see the gentleman tied up inside, so I panicked, I ran, I came downstairs and called the cops," Suazo said.

It's not yet known how the criminals got in, but the tenants showed CBS 2 how keys from their building open the front door to all the many buildings in the area owned by the landlord.

Police are currently reviewing surveillance footage from cameras in the area. So far, no arrests have been made.
