Police Seek Man Who Shot, Killed Woman In Brooklyn

Victim Gunned Down In Front Of Teenage Daughter During Apparent Domestic Dispute

BROOKLYN (CBS) ― Police are searching for a murderer who shot a woman several times on a Brooklyn street, right in front of her teenage daughter.

Shock and sadness grip a community in East Flatbush, scene of a horrific crime.

"We saw a young woman laying there – she was moving," church youth leader Ryan Jacob says. "There was blood coming from her left side."

Police say 31-year-old Francilyn Blake, a young mother with a teen daughter, was gunned down Saturday night in front of the church across the street from her home.

She was shot multiple times by a man she was having a dispute with.

"We hear at least four shots," one witness said.

Police say the shooter fled. Blake later died at Kings County Hospital.

"You heard like a 'pow, pow'," John William says.

William, who lives next door to Blake, says he saw the victim's daughter kneeling beside her dying mother, trying to help.

"Imagine that," William said. "Seeing your mother dying in front of you, at such a young age."

On Sunday, police stopped by the church several times to calm anxious parishioners who feared a killer on the loose. They told the churchgoers that the shooting was not the work of a random gunman, but a man the victim knew.

"They said it was a domestic violence case – that it was not a random shooting," parishioner Eslyn Souvenir said.

Police sources say they do know the identity of the man they are looking for, but won't offer specifics.

In the meantime, friends of the victim say the family is stunned.

"They're all broken up, they can't believe what has happened," one friend, who asked not to be identified, says. "None of us can believe what has happened, like it's not real."

"Police are now urging anyone with information to call CrimeStoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS (1-800-577-8477).

CBS 2's Scott Rapoport contributed to this report.
