A husband and wife are among several people hospitalized Sunday night in stable condition after a terrifying crash at a street festival.
The driver of a car service lost control, crashing into more than a dozen people.
Chaos erupted near the corner of Junction Boulevard and 37th Avenue in Queens after the livery cab made a wrong turn and plowed into revelers at the street fair.
"He made a right-hand turn, and the odd part of it is he went on the sidewalk, and went in the back of the vendor's booth," witness Michael DiBellis said.
"I saw him go into the tents," witness David Taveras said. "I don't believe he knew he was at a festival at all he ran down two guys."
Close to a dozen people suffered minor injuries, according to police. Several of them were taken to the hospital.
"When I got to the scene, there were two men on the floor," witness Juan Donado said. "He drove over one of the men's leg, his shin was splintered, and hot oil spilled onto his leg."
The crowd got another scare after the accident, when a tow truck driver tried to drive the car out, nearly crashing into another group of people.
Vendors say it's been a terrifying day.
Witnesses say that, when the driver of the car service got out of the car, he told everyone someone hit him from behind but there didn't appear to be any damage to his rear bumper.
"The driver was too calm after the accident," DiBellis said. "When he got out, he was standing against the car like he got pulled over for a traffic ticket."
The driver has been questioned by police. There is no word yet on whether charges will be filed.
Hospital officials say the man who was burned has been transferred to the Jacobi Medical Center Burn Unit, where he is listed in stable condition.
