Authorities Investigate Bronx Carnival Incident
Roller Coaster Derails, 7 Sent To Hospital
BRONX (CBS) ―
Authorities continued their investigation Sunday into why a roller coaster derailed at a Bronx carnival.
The Dragon Coaster ran off its tracks around 9:30 p.m. Saturday night at the Feast of St. Theresa Festival, on Westchester and St. Theresa Avenues near Pelham Bay Park.
The ride was full of children when it tipped over.
Police said the roller coaster stood no more than three to four feet off the ground.
Six kids and one adult were taken to the hospital.
"I was standing right next to it and it went down and then all the parents started running out everybody jumped over the gates and ran towards the roller coaster," one visitor said.
None of the injuries was considered serious. Police described the injuries as bumps and scratches.
After the crash, police shut down all of the rides as a precaution.
