U.S. Rep. Carolyn Maloney's daughter hopes to run in the New York City Marathon in her father's memory.
Clifton Maloney died last month on a mountain-climbing expedition in the Himalayas. He was 71.
His daughter, Virginia, who's 22, is waiting for confirmation from the New York Road Runners that she can run in Sunday's 26.2-mile race as a relay with some of her dad's friends.
The Democratic congresswoman says, "Clif would be thrilled that his daughter wants to run for him."
Clifton Maloney ran the marathon last year, finishing in just three hours and 58 minutes. He was an investment banker and avid climber.
Carolyn Maloney represents New York's 14th Congressional District. It includes parts of New York City.
Rep. Maloney was first elected to Congress in 1992, and is the first woman to Chair the Joint Economic Committee.
