Shoppers Fight The Elements For Last-Minute Deals
CBS 2 Went Out In Search Of Bargain Hunters, And Found Shoppers Who Were Tired & Cold
NEW YORK (CBS) ―
With just three days left until Christmas, procrastinators aren't letting the dangerously cold temperatures stop their holiday shopping. But as CBS 2 HD found out on Monday, many bargain hunters aren't feeling jolly about their last minute decision.
The snow may make it feel more like the holidays, but the bitter cold sure makes shopping for that last minute gift miserable.
"We went to Kohl's to do last minute shopping, but it's brutal out here. It's so cold," said Dora Lynn Torrillo. "When we go home we're not coming back."
One shopper found herself frozen, and what made it worse, she had lost where she parked.
"I should really zipper up. I lose my car all the time. It's terrible, and of course I don't have a beeper," said Woodbridge resident Gina McNaught.
A lot of shoppers tell us that they've been choosing to buy their gifts at stores more appropriate for bargain hunters.
"It's easier to come here and pick up what you need," said Ridgefield Park resident Susan Glynn. "I mean I know what I need. It's better than going to a mall and running in and out of stores."
If you plan on being outdoors, be warned that even though a lot of these parking lots have been plowed, there is still a lot of ice on the ground.
In the final push to Christmas, several retailers are staying open 24 hours to accommodate shoppers and heat up holiday sales.
