Gov. David Paterson still hasn't picked a successor for U.S. Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton.
President-elect Barack Obama tapped Clinton Monday as his nominee for secretary of state. She was expected to accept the job later in the day.
Paterson has so far declined to say whether he has a short list of candidates to replace the state's junior senator. He says he will consult with former senators and people around the state before making his decision.
He has so far ruled out naming himself. Since Clinton's senate seat hasn't yet been vacated, Paterson says he doesn't need to rush.
Possible replacements include Attorney General Andrew Cuomo, U.S. Rep. Kirsten Gillibrand and U.S. Rep. Nydia Velazquez.
