Poll: E. Seaboard Residents Want Coastal Drilling
WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. (CBS) ―
Most coastal residents from New York to Virginia surveyed favor offshore energy exploration.
A Monmouth University "Life On The Mid-Atlantic Coast" poll released Wednesday finds 46 percent of coastal residents surveyed favor ocean drilling, up from 33 percent in 2007.
Of those polled, 47 percent said rising sea levels are a natural phenomenon, 38 percent said they are caused by man, and 10 percent blamed both equally.
The poll questioned coastal residents of New York, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, and Virginia. Its margin of error is plus or minus 3.1 percentage points.
Monmouth University was founded in 1933.
