Gov. Corzine Champions Health Care Reform In D.C.

TRENTON (AP) ― Gov. Jon Corzine is in Washington to testify about the need for nationwide health care reform.

Corzine was invited to appear at a House subcommittee hearing. The panel is chaired by New Jersey Rep. Frank Pallone.

The governor testified for about 10 minutes, making the case for universal health care.

The former chairman of Goldman Sachs told the panel that the current economic downturn will force more employers to reduce or eliminate health coverage for their workers.

Corzine emphasized the need for a strong federal-state partnership and even stronger federal leadership. He said it is essential the government reauthorize SCHIP, the health insurance program for millions of American children.
