A Brooklyn car salesman was shot dead after being tricked into meeting what he thought was going to be a potential love interest, and instead turned out to be a pair of violent robbers.
Daniel Brandt, 24, was supposed to be going out on a date with a woman he met on Craigslist, but when arrived to the Sea Rise apartment complex in Coney Island to meet her in person, he was lured up to the fourth floor, robbed, and then fatally in the head by two men.
"It's terrible. It's a shame, I was devastated," said James Cargill, Brandt's friend.
"I think it's tragic. It shouldn't have happened," added Kim Fuller, another friend of the victim's. "He was just a beautiful person."
Fuller is a close family friend who says Brandt had a girlfriend who lives in Virginia. She also said, and police have confirmed, that Brandt went to the meeting with one of his friends, who was not injured.
"They robbed his friend. They didn't get a chance to rob him, they shot him," Fuller said.
Up until June, Brandt worked at Infiniti of Manhattan, where he will be remembered as not only a great salesman, but a great friend.
"Very outgoing, very friendly," said Joe Gorr, manager of the dealership. "Someone who would go to any length to accommodate anyone be it a friend, customer, co-worker, anyone."
Police are still trying to figure out if there ever was a woman on the Internet or if the two men who killed him lured him there for the purpose of killing him.
No arrests have been made as police continue to investigate.
