The U.S. Senate has joined the call for Brazil to return a boy living there to his father in New Jersey.
The Senate unanimously passed a resolution Tuesday.
The boy's mother took him on a vacation to Brazil in 2004 and never returned to the United States. She divorced his father, remarried and died last year after giving birth.
The boy's father, David Goldman, says the courts in Brazil have denied him custody of the 8-year-old. The child is being raised by his stepfather, who has said the boy is better off there.
Secretary of State Hillary Clinton and the New Jersey State Senate have also called for the boy's return.
The presidents of the U.S. and Brazil also discussed the case this month.
