Wayward Dolphins Follow Food Inland

SEA BRIGHT, N.J. (AP) ― Those wayward dolphins that swam into the Shrewsbury River aren't heading for the Atlantic Ocean.

They were spotted more inland on the Navesink River west of the Oceanic Bridge on Tuesday. The bridge connects Rumson and Middletown.

National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration spokeswoman Teri Frady tells the Asbury Park Press they're going the wrong way. Frady says she suspects the dolphins are following food and appear fine.

Officials issued summonses to eight boaters for harassing the dolphins between Thursday and Sunday. Penalties may range from a warning to a $10,000 fine.
