Woman Found Dead Inside Brooklyn Dry Cleaners

Neighbors Remember 52-Year-Old Victim As Pleasant

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Detectives are trying to solve a murder mystery in Brooklyn after a woman was found dead inside a dry cleaners that she ran.

The dry cleaners, located on the corner of 10th Avenue and Windsor Place, was crawling with investigators after the woman, identified as Kyung-Sook Woo, 52, of Flushing, was discovered lying face down in the bathroom around 8:30 Friday morning. The business was not open to customers yet.

"She's just always outside saying hello. She knows everyone by last name and first name. It's tragic," one customer told CBS 2.

Several people in the neighborhood were gathered outside the store Friday morning, realizing something was wrong. One of them was a female employee. Another was a neighbor, Don Allman, who discovered the woman's body.

"I saw that her pocketbook was inside and the gate was unlocked, so I went in to see if everything was OK, and I saw her body in the bathroom," he said.

Police say the woman's car had apparently been stolen.

Was it a simple robbery or was the killer after the car? Neighbors say a man not from the neighborhood had been hanging around outside the cleaners for a couple of hours yesterday and the victim had recently come down to a nearby deli to ask about the man.

The woman's identity has not yet been released pending next of kin being notified. Her body has been taken to the Medical Examiner for an autopsy to determine the cause of death.
