A Staten Island man has been busted for posing as a doctor. Authorities said he was offering cosmetic injections.
The man from Staten Island Pain Associates was in a world of legal hurt on Thursday.
Eduard Belfer, 42, was arrested on a felony count of unauthorized practice of a profession. Authorities said he posed as a doctor, offering cosmetic procedures he was not licensed to provide.
Belfer was in his Staten Island home Wednesday but wouldn't open the door. His neighbors described a friendly family man.
"He's a nice guy," one person said.
Belfer allegedly offered an undercover agent a shot of Ristilin, which is like Botox. Richmond County's district attorney is now looking for anyone who may have received or been offered an injection by Belfer.
A local business owner who didn't want to go on camera said Belfer was a medical professional in his home country. But he was never licensed to practice medicine in the U.S. The DAS office said that didn't stop him from giving people the impression he was a doctor.
Belfer is listed as the owner of another business, Beampro Medispa. The Web site said it provides cosmetically appealing solutions for the treatment of unwanted hair on the legs, face and body.
The site also advertises Botox, but it doesn't say who gives the shots.
Authorities believe there are more victims out there and are asking anyone who think they may have been a victim to call the Office of the District Attorney of Richmond County at 718-876-6300.
