Metuchen Man Stabbed To Death In Random Attack
JERSEY CITY, N.J. (CBS) ―
It was supposed to be a normal morning for a New Jersey father and financial executive who headed to work as he did like any other day. But he never made it his life taken in a random act of violence, despite the efforts a Good Samaritan who tried to come to the rescue.
It was a stabbing that horrified the Samaritan, Kevin Wendolowski, who couldn't help but chase after suspect who authorities say murdered the father of three from Metuchen in the Liberty Science commuter parking lot on Thursday morning.
The victim, identified as Michael Fuccile, worked at Merrill Lynch on the Jersey City waterfront. Investigators say the suspect, Elgin Taylor, Jr., approached him and stabbed him numerous times in front of the light rail train ticket booth.
"I told him to show me his hands, throw the knife in the grass," the Good Samaritan said. "He came back and we took him away."
Nearby workers tried to save Fuccile after the stabbing.
"The guy was laying on the floor dying. My co-worker tried everything to revive him," one of the workers said.
"He didn't die alone. He did have people around him who did care for that split-second," added the Good Samaritan.
Authorities say the 24-year-old suspect, a Jersey City resident, has a history of emotional problems and that the crime was completely random.
Taylor has been charged with murder and prosecutors say he will more than likely undergo a psychiatric evaluation.
Merrill Lynch released a statement, saying Fuccile was a "bright, dedicated colleague and his death is a great loss to the firm."
