WYANDANCH, N.Y. (CBS) ―
A gentle double-amputee who sang in her church choir and visited the public library every day was apparently murdered Monday morning by her mentally ill son in a bloody, brutal assault that left another son dead and her husband seriously injured.
Police descended on the one-story home at 20 Jackson St. in Wyandanch shortly after 8 a.m. following a frantic 9-1-1 call from inside the house. They found 52-year-old Queen Mobley and her 25 year-old son, E.J. mortally wounded from a knife attack. A trail of blood lead down the front walk to a lot across the street. At the end of that trail they found Ernest Mobley Sr. suffering from multiple cuts on the sidewalk along Straight Path.
The suspect was picked up a couple of blocks away. Police would not say if he was carrying the murder weapon. Suffolk County police identified the man as 31-year-old Courtney Williams, Ms. Mobley's son from a previous relationship. Williams allegedly stabbed his mother, half-brother and stepfather after a heated argument. Relatives say he has a history of mental illness and may have stopped taking his medication recently. They also say Queen told them she'd called police about her son's erratic behavior Sunday night, but she was allegedly told they could do nothing "until he did something."
A woman identified as the victim's sister wailed in despair when she arrived at the crime scene this morning.
"She told me she called police last night and they didn't do anything," the woman shouted. Police could not immediately confirm or deny the account.
Queen Mobley was wheelchair bound. She lost both legs to diabetes. Her husband Ernest would wheel her every to the nearby Wyandanch Library so she read and use the computer. Courtney Williams, CBS 2 was told, had been living with his mother in recent months and was known in the area to be "strange," but was not considered dangerous.
