Cops: Man Fondled Girl In Pool Full Of Kids

Stunning Queens Incident Leaves Witnesses Aghast; 20-Year-Old Queens Man In Custody And Facing Slew Of Charges

By ROSS PALOMBO, CBS 2 News
NEW YORK (CBS) ― There was a shocking attack at a Queens swimming pool on Friday. Police are now investigating the apparent sexual assault of a young girl.

Police brought that 20-year-old suspect into the 115th Precinct, but it was lifeguards who first pulled him out of the water -- away, witnesses said, from a pool full of kids.

In a neighborhood filled with kids and cars and scooters Andrea Lopez said this was her first time coming to this pool. She thought she was safe swimming with her 7-year-old niece and 10-year-old nephew, but that quickly changed.

"That's really horrible, especially with a little kid like that," she said.

A young swimmer was fondled, police said, in the water at Fisher Pool and when the lifeguards moved in Lopez and her friend saw them pull the suspect out.

"They were confused. They didn't know exactly which guy it was," Lopez said.

"The guards whistled and pulled him out," witness Chris Benson added.

Police said the suspect is 20-year-old Queens resident old Julio Ajcpacaja. He is facing charges of forcible touching and endangering the welfare of a child.

Other children were left playing behind the fence of the pool on Friday night. The pool itself was left with still water, after such big waves.

"That's sick, that's nasty, a grown man … what are you doing messing around with little kids?" Benson said.

Police did not release the name of the victim. They only said that paramedics examined her at the scene.

The NYPD later confirmed that the suspect does not work at the pool.
