NY Transit Official Backtracks On Anti-LIRR Remark
NEW YORK (AP) ―
A New York transit official has backtracked on his remark that trains are an inconvenience.
David S. Mack now says he's proud of the MTA and plans to vote against perks for its board members.
Mack, who's a vice chairman of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority, previously questioned whether he'd use the rail system if he didn't have a free pass. He said: "Why should I ride and inconvenience myself when I can ride in a car?"
He's now stressing his commitment to "the best public transportation system in the United States."
Mack says he'll vote next week to change policies on free passes for board members.
State Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has threatened to sue board members if they persist in using free E-ZPass toll payment tags and other transit passes for personal reasons.
