Thanks to incredible technology, a Marine serving in Iraq was able to help his wife deliver their son in Connecticut.
On Wednesday, Capt. Timothy Leonard was able to watch his son Andrew being born at Greenwich Hospital and help talk his wife Trini through the delivery
from 9000-miles away!
"It was like he was here. Basically as a human being you want your husband to be with you and your son," a tearful Trini said.
It's tough not to cry, especially with Capt. Leonard serving his second tour in Iraq. And while the high-tech hook-up was amazing, dad can't wait for the real thing.
"I'm looking forward to meeting him in person and holding him," Capt. Leonard told CBS 2.
The charity, Freedom Calls, has been bringing military families together for four years through video conferencing. It's free for the families, who can video chat with each other up to three times a month.
This time around, Capt. Leonard has been away from his family since April, which has been tough, especially on his 2-year-old son Patrick who was excited to visit with his dad by satellite.
Mom says having her husband by her bedside made all the difference.
"Even though he was not able to hold my hand, but he was there the whole time, I was able to talk to him before, during and after," says Trini.
Capt. Leonard will finally be able to hold his wife and his sons in person when he returns home in the Spring.
