For most kids, "scary" is the first day of school or a nightmare. For six-year-old Ciara Rogers, it was finding her mother moments away from death.

It was a family emergency that nearly ended in tragedy, but came down to a second grader who knew just what to do when it mattered.
Her family is together and intact Thursday because of her bravery.
"It was a little scary, yeah, it was a little scary for me," Ciara Rogers said.
For most kids, "scary" is the first day of school or a nightmare. For six-year-old Ciara Rogers, it was finding her mother moments away from death.
It happened in the middle of the night at the family's East New York apartment, where Ciara lives with her parents and younger brother.
"There was nobody else she was on the floor, and Luis was crying in the crib, and I was crying so much that my head was hurting," Ciara said. "I took a deep breath and I called 9-1-1."
High blood pressure and kidney problems put Ciara's mother, Valencia Rogers, at constant risk of seizure. She's still recovering at Brookdale Hospital.
"I remember waking up in the middle of the night," Valencia said. "I went to the bathroom, and that's where I fell, and that's where I had the seizure."
At that point, Valencia's memory goes blank. The next thing she remembers, she says, is waking up in the care of EMTs from the fire department who brought her to Brookdale's emergency room.
Neighbors say they feel safer with a lifesaver living next door.
"Actually, I'd like to get to know her in case I need my life saved, because I'm right down the hall," neighbor Slash Pea said.
"I'm very proud," Valencia said. "I tell her every day, 'thank you.'"
Ciara may have more life-saving days in her future. She says if she doesn't become a cheerleader when she grows up, she wants to be a doctor.
Thursday marked the first time that Valencia had seen her daughter since the night of the emergency call. She says she's going to continue to tell Ciara how proud she is of her every day.
