Go! New York: Kettlebells Fitness

NEW YORK (CBS) ― If you're looking to shake up your fitness routine, and you're tired of lifting weights, kettlebells could be your answer.

They're the hot new tool in the gym, but you do have to know what you're doing.

Steve Feinberg teaches an entire class devoted to kettle bells.

CBS 2's Kate Sullivan dropped in on one of his classes for an up close look a the fitness trend.

"The first thing is a swing, so lean forward, with legs and feet straight, and get the kettlebell to have a little flick and then you stand up," said Feinberg.

Kettlebell training works an entire group of muscles, instead of a free weight, which makes you isolate specific muscles. The bells create more athletic ability and increase your core stability.

"So the second move we will do is a high pull, 1, 2, 3, pull it up and then show the bottom of the bell to the mirror," said Feinberg.

The second move?

"We drag the kettlebell into place and place your hand to heart."

It may look like the quickest way to throw out your back. So Feinberg recommends participants know a little before engaging fully in kettlebell training.

"I wouldn't advise anyone to pick up a kettlebell and cross your fingers..."

Feinberg adds that a quick tutorial can get you started and once you know what you're doing, you will see results.

"I think the main thing I notice is strength training and flexibility overall," he said.
