Ceremonies, Parade Mark NYC Veterans Day

An Estimated 20,000 Participants In Veterans Parade

NEW YORK (CBS/AP) ― Organizers estimate 20,000 people are participating in New York City's annual Veterans Day Parade -- including veterans, active duty military, civic and youth groups.

Marching bands, floats and historic military vehicles also are featured at the Tuesday parade, which has the theme "Legacy of Honor."

Mayor Michael Bloomberg started the annual observance by placing a wreath at the Eternal Light Monument in Manhattan's Madison Square Park.

Bloomberg also is among the marchers in the parade along Fifth Avenue; Rep. Carolyn Maloney is a grand marshal.

President Bush and Gov. David Paterson are speakers at the formal rededication of the Intrepid, a World War II aircraft carrier that's now a museum.

Here's a list of street closures for the Veteran's Day Parade in Manhattan:

5th Avenue between 23rd Street & 54th Street will be closed 11am to 5pm.
