An 8-year-old boy drowned in a pool at an Independence Day party in Queens.
The little boy had been sitting by the pool at a relative's house on 136th Street. Around 7 p.m., some of the guests noticed that the boy, believed to be the only child at the party was missing.
Someone spotted him in the pool, and one family friend, a lifeguard, dove into the deep end of the below-ground pool and pulled him to the surface.
The lifeguard then performed CPR on the child until paramedics arrived.
He was rushed to New York Hospital in Queens where he was pronounced dead.

"Yeah, it's really sad, especially in our neighborhood. We're very close. We're only this little corner and that's it," neighbor Liann Palmieri said.
"Gotta have an adult present at all times. You have to know your first aid and you have to know how to swim. You have to know how to take care of these kids," another resident said.
This was the third area drowning this holiday week.
A 2-year-old girl drowned in an above ground pool in Central Islip last Thursday while her father napped and her mother prepared lunch, and 49-year-old nanny Ana Maria DeGimenez drowned while trying to save the child she was caring for.
The three-year-old boy survived.
"She sacrificed herself for the baby. That's the way she was. I have to say she was a hero to me, even before she died," said her friend Carol Barrios.
