Infant Killed In Upstate NY Car Crash
NEW BALTIMORE, N.Y. (AP) ―
A tractor-trailer crashed into a car that authorities say tried to make an illegal U-turn on the New York State Thruway, killing a six-month-old boy.
State police say 22-year-old Jay Katon of Alburg, Vt., was in the right lane headed up the Thruway about 20 miles south of Albany Saturday morning when he cut into the passing lane to try to make a U-turn, which isn't allowed on the Thruway. Investigators say the truck was driving in the passing lane, and Katon pulled in front of it.
The infant was pronounced dead at an Albany hospital. Katon and three other passengers also were treated there. The truck driver wasn't injured.
Police say everyone in the car was properly restrained when the crash happened.
