Girlfriend Of Hedge Fund Swindler Charged Anew
WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. (CBS/AP) ―
The girlfriend of hedge fund swindler Samuel Israel III has been arrested and charged with trying to deliver contraband to him in prison.
The nature of the contraband was not disclosed. Her lawyer, Richard Strassberg, declined comment.
The arrest Friday was disclosed in White Plains federal court on Wednesday after Debra Ryan of Armonk pleaded not guilty to an earlier charge that she helped Israel skip out on his 20-year prison sentence.
Judge Kenneth Karas said the charge of "introducing contraband into prison" was a Westchester County charge, not a federal charge, meaning it likely
happened while Israel was in the county jail.
He was recently transferred to a federal medical prison in Massachusetts for physical and psychological testing.
