Queens Man Shot And Killed During Robbery

QUEENS (CBS) ― Tonight, police are trying to solve a deadly shooting that took the life of a 56-year-old father.

The shooting happened around 7:00 Saturday night on Watson Place in Jamaica, Queens.

Shot and killed in his own car, police say John Bazemore was the victim of a robbery.

"He was a good man, he did everything for everybody," daughter Artesura Bazemore said. "If he had it, he gave it to you."

Bazemore's family is making a desperate plea to anyone who may have seen the murder to come forward.

"They robbed a man [who] didn't give up no fight," son-in-law Michael Browne said. "You shot him and left him there to die. There's no sense in killing him that way."

Investigators have been going door-to-door on Watson Place searching for possible witnesses. Unfortunately, most neighbors say they didn't see the actual crime that was committed at around 7:30 Saturday night, but only the horrific aftermath.

"We just got scared," resident Kimberly Nadel said. "I rushed the kids in and I was just surprised to see that he was in the car, dead. I've never seen that before, it was shocking to me."

Witnesses say that after Bazemore was shot, his vehicle kept on moving, crashing into several cars on the street.

"I think he was driving to get away from whoever was shooting at him or something, and he turned in this block and realized it was a dead end," Nadel said.

"We already want to move because it's not safe around here," Melina Nadel said.

Bazemore's daughter has been through a lot. She just buried her uncle and her brother's murder years ago still hasn't been solved.

"He's just going to be missed – truly going to be missed," Artesura said.

Police won't say what was taken in the crime but family members say Bazemore's cell phone was stolen, while his wallet was left behind.
