A man accused of trying to pull a little girl into his truck at a Westchester stable faced a judge on Wednesday morning. But the charges against him are being questioned. The girl's mother believes they're not harsh enough.
41-year-old James McKean came to court looking considerably different from the day of his arrest.
His mug shot shows him scruffy, wild eyed and disheveled.
McKean faces misdemeanor charges stemming from an incident at a horse stable last week, when he allegedly tried to lure Stefanie King's 11-year-old daughter into his truck.
"When they got to the soda machine, he said darn I have no money, take a walk up to my car. When she told him I'm not allowed up there, he then grabbed her by the wrist, took her about 20 feet and at that point, she started to cry and she was able to pry his fingers off her wrist," said King.
King's sister says McKean approached her daughter earlier in the month.
"He started making comments to her, comments about her looks...he would brush up against her and she would walk away," said Dawn Struzz.
The concerned parents already have dozens of signatures on a petition urging the DA to increase the charge against McKean to attempted kidnapping, a felony.
The prosecutor asked the judge to increase McKean's bond, but the judge refused. He is due back in court on August 6.
