She's a superstar, no doubt. We're talking about Jennifer Lopez. Now the actress-singer is being sued for millions. And it's all because her guard dog may be too good at his job.
A flight attendant says the German shepherd attacked her, and now she wants $5 million for it.
The lawsuit has many in Lopez's Long Island community jumping to the entertainer's defense.
Lopez, her husband and their twins live on Long Island's north shore in an estate monitored by local police and neighbors who protect the privacy of the megastars. J. Lo also has guard dog, a German shepherd named "Floyd."
According to federal court documents, Lopez and Floyd were on a private gulfstream jet hired out of Republic Airport in Farmingdale, when, en route to Los Angeles, the animal allegedly nipped at the leg of the flight attendant.
On the celebrity gossip Web site, I'mNotObsessed.com, founder and Garden City mother of two Vera Sweeney says the resulting lawsuit is the chatter of the Internet.
"Unfortunately I think that people like to take advantage of celebrities and their money. You know, a $5 million dollar lawsuit for getting bit on the leg by a dog seems a little extreme to me," Sweeney said.
Five million dollars? She says her readers concur, and seem wary of flight attendant Lisa Wilson's lawyers' claims:
"Defendant Jennifer Lopez boarded aircraft with "Floyd," a German Shepherd described as "a well behaved guard dog ... The guard dog lunged at the plaintiff as she walked past, attacking her and biting her pant leg
The plaintiff twisted and fell, injuring her lower back. As a result, she has been unable to return to duties," the lawsuit says.
Her fans certainly aren't having it.
"I guess the dog should have been under J. Lo's control," one fan said.
"That's just a crazy amount for a bite," added another.
The flight attendant is not speaking, but through her lawyers says she is not out to capitalize on J. Lo's celebrity, and had made attempts to settle the case that were ignored.
The flight attendant also alleges her back is so sore she can never work again. CBS 2 HD reached out to Jennifer Lopez's publicist, but she did not issue any comment.
