It was a night of wicked winds and wild waves that had Jersey Shore residents watching in wonder.
"This is a pretty intense storm. We get nor'easters all the time and this is definitely one to remember," resident Ian Schrader said.
What made this storm memorable in Beach Haven was the reach of the water. In the town's main drag ocean water met bay water, flooding the street, and that had police detouring drivers.
"It's the northeast flow. It's the northeast wind. It won't let the water go out of the bay. It just builds up and builds and builds," said Bill Tromm of Emergency Management 10.
Street flooding that made it a slow and careful go for those not wanting to get stuck.
"They're just unbelievable. I've never seen it like this before. Been down here since '96 and I've never seen it like this," said Rich Deluccia of Bergen County.
Rich and Karen Deluccia said their summer home is okay, but what's in front of it, not so much.
"It's a little nerve-wracking because we went up to the beach today and the beach was gone. Totally gone," Karen Deluccia said.
This is indicative of the erosion authorities were concerned about. A day ago the sand stretched all the way to where CBS 2 HD was standing but by Friday night, the waves had done their job, taking the beach out to sea.
The dunes in front of two homes we saw used to be 5 feet high, protecting the homes but on Friday night the foundations were at the mercy of an angry sea.
"I can't believe it," resident Lisa Schmidt said.
That's exactly what they were saying at a home where the porch was declared unsafe after its support was washed away.
"If the waves keep up like this, another six to eight hours the house is in pretty bad shape," resident John Gray said.
