Jets Sign 8 Players To Practice Squad
Ink Veteran Weatherford, Seventh Punter Since Last Season
NEW YORK (AP) ―
The New York Jets signed free agent punter Steve Weatherford, waived punter A.J. Trapasso and added eight players to their practice squad Monday.
Weatherford has kicked for New Orleans, Kansas City and Jacksonville during his three-year NFL career. Weatherford was cut by the Jaguars on Saturday.
He's the seventh punter the Jets have since last season, including Trapasso, who was awarded off waivers Sunday, Reggie Hodges, Eric Wilbur, T.J. Conley, Ken Harris and Glenn Pakulak.
Signed to the practice squad were: fullback Jehuu Caulcrick, linebacker Kenwin Cummings, defensive back Emanuel Cook, safety Keith Fitzhugh, wide receiver Marcus Henry, defensive tackle Matt Kroul, offensive tackle Ryan McKee and tight end Jack Simmons.
All eight players spent time with the Jets during training camp. Caulcrick has been with the team since last spring, as has Cummings, who tied for the team lead in preseason tackles.
Henry was the Jets' sixth-round pick in last year's draft. Cook, Fitzhugh, Kroul, McKee and Simmons signed in May as undrafted free agents.
