Cop Shot In Bahamas Could Return Home By Monday

BERGENFIELD, N.J. (AP) ― The Bergenfield police officer who was shot while on vacation in the Bahamas could be back in New Jersey as early as Monday.

Officer John Casper was in stable condition after being shot in the chest while trying to stop a robbery attempt Wednesday night in Nassau.

Bergenfield Police Chief Frederick McGarril told The Record of Bergen County that Casper was in good spirits and able to speak.

McGarril said Casper could be transferred to Hackensack University Medical Center as early as the beginning of the week.

The 49-year-old Casper was vacationing on the Caribbean island with his girlfriend and others when they were approached by two men who tried to rob the group.

Police in the Bahamas were still seeking suspects in the shooting.
