A Long Island man accused of slamming into a police cruiser has been convicted of driving while intoxicated, assault and other charges.
A jury in Nassau County convicted Rahiem Griffin on Monday, their second day of deliberations. Griffin faces seven years in prison when he is sentenced on July 22.
Nassau County Police Officer Kenneth Baribault had stopped one driver for suspected drunken driving on the Long Island Expressway in May 2008. Authorities say a second vehicle driven by Griffin then slammed into the rear of the police car.
Baribault, who can only speak in single syllables and is partially paralyzed, made a brief appearance at the trial last week, demonstrating his injuries during testimony by his physician.
Griffin's attorney, Gerard Brogdon, said he intended to appeal.
