Brothers Of Missing Woman Plead For Suspect's Help

NEW YORK (CBS) ― They're trying to stay strong, but sometimes the tears flow and their darkest fears surface.

Still, Nick and Ivan Garza hold out hope their sister Laura is somewhere, safe. The 25-year-old aspiring dancer who recently moved from Texas to Brooklyn has been missing since last Wednesday night.

"[There's] a lot of people, a lot of people that love her," Nick tells CBS 2.

The Garza brothers traveled from Texas to New York a few days after Laura disappeared. She was last seen at the trendy Chelsea hot spot "Marquee" in the company of Michael Mele, a 23-year-old convicted sex offender with a long history of lewd behavior with women.

"We're just asking for help, for the community to give us a clue," Nick says.

The brothers know the signs are not good.

Pieces of wall-to-wall carpet are missing from Mele's apartment and he apparently told a friend that Laura was missing – eight hours before her roommate actually notified cops.

Mele, held on a probation violation, has hired an attorney and isn't cooperating with investigators.

Nick Garza wanted to send Mele a message, directly.

"God is in our heart. Let God in your heart," he says. "We don't want anything to happen to her, please. Let God into your heart and give us that information."

While they wait for a break in the case, the brothers are traveling the region, handing out "Missing" posters.

"My brother and I, [we're] walking around, driving around, sleep maybe one hour, two hours, and go," says Ivan.

The brothers say they're grateful for the long hours police are dedicating to the case. Meanwhile, investigators continue to collect and analyze evidence, building a circumstantial case to connect Mele to the missing woman.
