Friends & Family Gather To Remember Linda Stein

'Realtor To The Stars' May Have Been Killed By Someone She Knew

NEW YORK (CBS) ― Family and friends of murdered "realtor to the stars" Linda Stein gathered Friday with an array of celebrities who came to say goodbye to a woman who touched many lives.

The 64-year-old's daughter found her in a pool of blood in her upscale Upper East Side apartment on Tuesday, what police say was a result of a brutal beating.

"We'll never forget this woman. She was bigger than life, one of a kind. There was no one like her," said Jerry Miller, a friend of Stein's.

The murder of the popular realtor among A-list celebrities stunned the city and many others in the Hollywood clique. Police say Stein had blunt force trauma to her head and neck, but they're still searching for her killer who somehow got into her penthouse condo of her highly secured doorman building.

"She was the quintessential New Yorker. She was real loud and boisterous. She was very very funny and very strident," said Legs McNeil, another close friend.

While Stein made her money as a realtor, she first made her mark as manager of the punk rock group The Ramonse.

"I loved her a lot. She was a great woman, lots of fun to be around. She made incredible contributions to the culture," said Mickey Lee, brother of Joey Ramone.

"We were always reminiscing about the old stories from the old days in the 70s working with the Ramones. She always had a great story," said Ramones manager Monte Melnick.

Stein kept her relationships from her music years, which explains why Blondie's Deborah Harry came to say goodbye, as did others including Paul Shaffer from the Late Show with David Letterman. Music was certainly her passion.

"I just remember she took me to see Bob Marley at the Beacon three nights in a row and we had a lot of fun those three nights," said longtime friend Marsha Feigenbaum.

But the fun has turned to heartbreak as her family followed her casket to its grave, not before telling those who came in their eulogies what the world has lost:

"The full impact of my loss has not yet settled in. I only know my life will never be the same," said her ex-husband, Sidney Stein.

Added her daughter, Mandy Stein: "She opened up doors, doors that never dreamed would ever exist, and all the times that we had."

The investigation into Stein's death is still ongoing. Because there was no forced entry into her apartment, police believe she knew her killer. They're questioning friends and associates of her, but still have not named a suspect.
