The Lowdown On Lip Gloss

How to make your lips sexier!

by Kate Sullivan
NEW YORK (CBS) ― They sparkle, shimmer, and shine.

That's just scratching the surface of what today's glosses can give you.

According to Allure Magazine's Victoria Kirby says, "everybody wants that Angelina Jolie pouty mouth so the lip companies are really responding by amping up their lip products and making them as innovative and as exciting as possible."

'Promise' for example, promises to not only give you glowing lips, but also curb your appetite.

Kirby says the 'Promise' brand contains natural appetite suppressants. This keeps you reaching for a snack, but instead, you put the gloss on.

Whether it keeps its promise? Kirby says, "I think when you use it, you have to sort of see for yourself."

You can check out the magic wand, called 'Sexy Smile.' Developed by dentist to the stars, Dr. Pia Lieb, it's half gloss, half teeth-whitener!

Dr. Lieb says, the wand allows you touch up your teeth and your lips at the same time. "You never forget to use it because you're always applying the gloss so you know that you'll always apply your tooth whitener." Believe it or not, it also freshens your breath!

If you're looking for a burst of energy then you can reach for 'Spazzstic,' which contains caffeine.

Once applied to your lips, Kirby says the caffeine, gets absorbed into your body just like you would if you drank it."

Another gloss that would make Inspector Gadget proud is called 'Liparazzi.' It lights up and has a mirror, so you can always gloss on the go. "It's a real convenience we haven't had before," says Kirby.

Lip Plumpers are another hot seller. They use moisturizers or other ingredients like cinnamon or hot pepper to perk up your pout. Kirby says most people will find a temporary effect with lip plumpers. She added, "most people do see a difference. Yet, the effect is still temporary, but it's a lot less expensive and a lot easier than a trip to the doctor's office."
