Long Island Train De-Rails, No Injuries Reported
HUNTINGTON (CBS) ―
The Long Island Rail Road say an eastbound train has derailed, suspending service east of Huntington on the Port Jefferson branch.
LIRR spokesperson Susan McGowan reports no injuries in the partial derailment, which happened in Woodbury at 4:25 p.m. Thursday.
McGowan says the first set of wheels on the first car of the 3:27 train from Penn Station, due to arrive in Huntington at 4:33, left the track at the Avery Road crossing. She says the train, which was carrying 200 passengers, remained upright.
The railroad has dispatched a train to the scene to evacuate passengers. Limited bus service is also being provided.
McGowan says they hope to have service back to normal in a couple of hours.
The derailment is under investigation.
The LIRR, which is a member of New York City's Metro Transit Association, is currently celebrating its 175th anniversary.
